It was all very nice, but sorely missing something before it could be a finished track. Fortunately I knew Gwyn, the finest jazz singer in the North East, who had already done tracks with fellow kollective member Jon (BigDeck). I gave her a copy of my loops and asked if she wanted to record some vocals. She did, so she came round for an afternoon, we knocked together some lyrics and recorded a few takes, simple as that. (Dont you just love working with professionals?!) The only basis for the lyrics was that she thought my track sounded watery - we just went from there. So, there was no deep personal meaning intended, although with hindsight some lyrics touch a nerve! So then I try and put the vocals in, but find all my synths are occupying the exact frequency range of her voice. It doesnt work. Frustrated. Abandon it. Fast forward to the start of 2002 and I realise I've got these quality vocal tracks gathering dust, an inexcusable situation. So, I moved the track from Buzz to Nuendo to see if that sparked anything, and it did. About two thirds of what you hear in the final track was rewritten from scratch at this stage, with about half of what formed the original track preserved at least partially, and half scrapped altogether, excluding beats. Apart from insert effects over the whole drum track channel group, the beats were kept just as they were: they were programmed nearly a year ago, so they're not that hot, but they're alright I suppose. Begun - Spring(?) 2001. Done - Mar 22 2002(!)
